About Me

A real person behind every service.

My name is DJ Tatum, and before Rooted Career Studio, I worked in HR and recruiting, reviewing high volume applications across everything from entry level customer service roles to director and VP opportunities. I have seen what makes candidates stand out, what gets overlooked, and what makes someone’s experience feel real instead of generic.

After being laid off in 2024, I found myself on the other side of the job search. Like a lot of people, I used AI to help with my résumé and career materials because that is what everyone was recommending. I even spent a lot of time going back through everything myself, trying to make it sound more human. At the time, I thought I had done a pretty good job.

Then a recruiter told me straight up that it still did not read like a real person wrote it. That stuck with me because I had spent so much time trying to perfect my résumé and cover letters that I was missing chances to apply for roles I actually wanted. The job search was already stressful, and trying to write everything from scratch for every opportunity made it even harder.

That is a big reason Rooted Career Studio exists. We help job seekers show up stronger on paper, online, and in interviews without getting stuck doing it all alone.
